Yisro's Conversion and the Sinai Encounter: Acting on the Divine Call

Why did the divine choose Parcias Yisro for the awe-inspiring event of Maimed Harsinai, where the Ten Commandments were delivered? What makes Yisro's conversion to Judaism a pivotal prelude to this historic revelation? Uncover the transformative message behind these profound choices in our latest episode as we navigate the non-linear storytelling of the Torah and the powerful teachings it imparts.

In our thought-provoking discussion, we're not just recounting biblical events but extracting life-altering lessons on converting divine inspiration into tangible action. Yisro's story, placed uniquely before the Sinai revelation, underscores the urgency of witnessing the miraculous and acting upon it. We'll explore this critical imperative, which sets the stage for embracing the Ten Commandments, and reflect on the universal importance of truly hearing — a theme that resonates with our choices and actions in daily life. Join us for a journey that promises to echo far beyond the words we hear into the deeds we do.

Speaker 1:

In a choice between all separate and unique 54 Parcios and Hashem, sacred Torah, god chose Parcias, yisro, to play host to the great revelation, the Maimed Harsinai and the giving of the Ten Commandments at Mount Sinai. We know there are no coincidences. It was chosen for a reason and why. And furthermore, according to some of the great medieval commentators, the story of Yisro and his conversion to Judaism may not have happened until after the Ten Commandments. Yet the Torah chose to tell us Yisro's conversion story, that he came to Chas, kanfe, hashchina, before the Ten Commandments. It seems that it was such an important lesson that the Torah felt the need to even go out of linear order. Why? And the great Mali Moser, they explained to us because it could be that a man could witness the most incredible happening. Yet if he doesn't learn to hear a lesson and to act upon it to remove the distortion and then to get help and perfect himself, then even Kabbalah's Torah could be fruitless and pointless, god forbid. And that lesson is taught to us by Yisro because the verse at the very beginning of our parshah says and Yisro heard, he heard about the war and he heard about the splitting of the water and he heard about the great, miraculous things that happened to the Jewish people. So he chose to join the fold of the Jewish people. But you and I both know that it wasn't only Yisro that heard. I heard about this great happening. It was on the front of the mid-bar times, don't you know? But the Torah says no only Yisro heard, aishma Yisro, because it seems he was the only convert, the only person who was inspired and acted from the entire world. And that lesson needs to be taught before we're to hear the Ten Commandments, for you're about to see the most incredible happening and hear the most incredible things, but know it's about taking the knowledge and witnessing what you have seen and then sparking yourself and letting it turn into real, concrete action, the same way that Yisro just took action when he witnessed the incredible. And by Yisma, yisro hear, be inspired and then definitely make sure to do.
